Join our expert guide on an eco-adventure through the back island waterways on a meditative journey into the heart of our mangrove forest. As the ‘lungs’ of our island, these salt-resistant trees store vast amounts of carbon, making them one of our most valuable allies in the fight against climate change.
The mangroves are also the guardians of the island’s shoreline, preventing erosion, while also filtering sediments and pollutants from the island’s water system, keeping it clean and clear for plants, wildlife and humans alike. When the winds and storms reach their crescendo in September, these forests are a haven for wildlife. Many marine species call these waters home - from tiny shrimp, mangrove crabs and molluscs right through to tropical fish and sea turtles.
