About COMO The Treasury

COMO The Treasury is a luxury hotel located in the heart of Perth, Western Australia, occupying the 19th-century State Buildings on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street.

THE STORY OF THE STATE BUILDINGS

The Old Treasury Buildings (as they were formerly known) were constructed between 1875 and 1958. Housing various public offices of State until the mid-1990s, they retained a remarkable architectural cohesion through the use of Victorian Georgian, Victorian Second Empire and Federation Free Classical styles.

The buildings were sadly left vacant from the mid-1990s, until a vision to restore these beautiful buildings and bring them back to life began. Redevelopment commenced in November 2012, with Palassis Architects engaged as the Heritage Architect for the initial stages, and Kerry Hill Architects as the restoration architect and interior designer.

The Old Treasury Buildings – now renamed The State Buildings – began their new life on October 15th 2015 as home to a myriad of innovative restaurants, elegant boutiques, and a luxurious contemporary hotel, COMO the Treasury.

The State Buildings continue to act as symbol of West Australia’s government administration and a place where numerous important public figures have worked, including Colonial Secretaries, Crown Solicitors, Postmasters General, Chief Architects, Surveyors General and more. They represent the history of our regional operations, as well as the changing economic circumstances in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, connecting Western Australians with their recent past.

Now the doors are once again open, we welcome you to embrace the building’s rich history, and experience all that we have created. Relax in the lounge rooms, explore our art collection, or borrow a bike and discover the surrounding city of Perth.
