COMO Shambhala Estate is a leading wellness retreat set in the jungle between the Ayung and Oos rivers near Ubud in Bali. It’s a destination for transformative experiences, combining expert-led teaching with holistic wellness practices.
COMO Shambhala Estate is renowned for its holistic approach to wellness, with industry-leading Wellness Paths, highly trained Ayurvedic specialists and a complete roster of treatments from Chinese Traditional Medicine to hydrotherapy and yoga. We have designed three perfect days at COMO Shambhala Estate — an ideal ‘reset’ which pairs excellently with a wider Bali itinerary.
Living Among Trees
Take some time to familiarise yourself with your private residence, villa or suite. Each is set into the jungle landscape, with interiors inspired by nature, and outstanding jungle views. The atmosphere is laced with calm, and the air is filled with birdsong. Your reset begins here.
Once you’re ready, join an afternoon wellness activity. These change daily but might include restorative Pilates, therapeutic hydrotherapy in the Estate’s Vitality Pool, a breathwork class, or a Balinese gratitude ceremony. This traditional ritual is usually led by a local Hindu priest in traditional dress, who will guide you through making local offerings of fruit, flowers and incense.
Afterwards, head to the Tea House to watch the sunset over the Begawan Hills while enjoying a healthy COMO Shambhala juice or herbal tea. Once the sun dips below the horizon, it’s time for supper. glow serves nourishing dishes from the COMO Shambhala Kitchen, including salads, energising juices and blends rich in living enzymes, vitamins and minerals. It’s wholesome, filling cuisine, and a satisfying finish to your first day in the jungle.
Day Two
Going with the Flow
An early start is the best way to take advantage of the morning wellness activities. While these change daily, you might have a chance to practise some deep flow yoga or Qi Gong, or if you feel like exploring, you could take a bike and cycle through the local villages and rice fields.
After your morning activity, have a leisurely breakfast at Kudus House — located in a 150-year old former Javanese residence — showcasing Indonesian flavours and cuisine as well as international favourites.
Next, set off on the Estate Walk, following a trail around parts of the nine-and-a-half hectare Estate. You’ll pass secret gardens and quiet corners, as well as the Ayung river, while spotting local flora and fauna. Your guide will lead you through a relaxed stretching session at the end of the walk.
A private water purification ceremony follows at the Estate's 'Source', a revered sacred spring steeped in mythology and religious history. You’ll make offerings led by a Hindu priest under an ancient banyan tree before beginning a series of cleansing processes. Each has its own meaning and purpose, whether protecting you from nightmares or clearing your chakras.
For lunch, enjoy a picnic at the Kedara Water Garden, where you can feast on food from COMO Shambhala Kitchen, then spend the afternoon unwinding beside sunlit pools of mineral water.
Afterwards, continue your relaxation with a 90-minute massage, choosing between the signature full-body COMO Shambhala Massage, Indonesian deep tissue massage, or restorative Taksu massage. Dinner in your private residence or villa is a great way to round out a busy day, with an intimate meal.
Absorbing the Atmosphere
A morning wellness activity starts the day, with Qi Gong, yoga, an Estate Walk, or a cycling excursion depending on that day’s schedule. Next, have breakfast at Kudus House, or if you rise later, head to glow for brunch. Take your time basking in the calm of the Estate, with a last visit to your favourite spot to reflect.
