Fiji: Three Perfect Days

AT COMO LAUCALA ISLAND

Destination 5 minute read

COMO Laucala Island is a private island resort in Fiji with just 24 villas. It’s an extraordinary natural paradise – and the ultimate destination to get away from it all.

A Sailboat On The Water

COMO Laucala Island is 3,500 acres, so however you choose to spend your time, you’ll feel like the only people on the island. We have designed three perfect days showcasing the best of COMO Laucala Island, from golfing on our 18-hole David McLay Kidd Championship Course, to a sunset cruise on board a traditional sailing yacht.

Day One

Exploring the Island

Settle into your ocean-facing residence and met your Tau (Fijian for ‘friend’), who will organise all activities and experiences for the duration of your stay.. After a gentle stroll to get your bearings, stop off at the relaxed Beach Bar for a rejuvenating COMO Shambhala juice and a light lunch. The Fijian Kokoda and fish tacos are particularly popular.

Afterwards, retreat to the white-sand beach for some relaxation. You can take out a jetski, sailing dinghy, or kayak, or simply snorkel directly from the sea in front of your villa. For the best snorkelling, a guided excursion is a great way to catch sight of the vibrant marine life, from manta rays and corals, to hawksbill turtles and angelfish.

After an afternoon spent unwinding, head to the Plantation Bar for a cocktail aperitif. Here, you can choose to hear about Polynesian culture and history from our local experts, or simply enjoy your surroundings, including a collection of photographs by Italian legend, Gian Paolo Barbieri. Dine at Plantation House, with much of the fine dining tasting menu sourced from COMO Laucala’s on-island organic farm.

Day Two

Revel in Sun and Sea

Rise early to meet the crew of our Riviera 41 Flybridge yacht for a deep sea game fishing excursion. The waters beyond the reef offer an abundance of blue marlin, wahoo, Pacific sailfish and giant trevally, with expert-led coaching available. Once back on land, head to Plantation House for a well-deserved breakfast.

After breakfast, why head over to the 18-hole Championship Golf Course, designed by  David Mclay Kidd. This par-72 course is considered one of the most challenging in the South Pacific, and our golf pro is on-hand to guide you through the elevated tees and fairways. If golf isn’t for you, our tennis pros are always available for a game or lesson on one of the hard courts near the golf course.

Day Three

From Beach to Ocean

Start the day at Plantation House for a wholesome breakfast. Afterwards, explore a new section of the island’s trails and pristine beaches from the steady saddles of our resident horses: Malcolm, Blondy, El, Grey, Jacky, Didi, Kalokalo, Lucy and Clyde. Pause for a gourmet picnic lunch on Long Beach, before heading back towards the resort. Confident riders might choose to canter along the beach.

In the afternoon, take some time to soak up the sun on the beach, take out a jet ski, or explore the mangroves by kayak. If you’re determined to enjoy every experience COMO Laucala has to offer, you could consider the intermediate Tower Hike, which takes around one hour, with spectacular views. You’ll pass through the island’s rare Fijian hardwood rainforest, and wander among hibiscus and island fruit trees including avocado and guava. Along the way, your guide will point out the rich bird life, with the chance of seeing the endemic orange dove and the red and green collared lory.

For your last evening at COMO Laucala Island, embark on a Champagne sunset cruise on either of our fleet’s two traditional sailing yachts: Malaika or Rere Ahi. Once the stars begin to shine, return to the pier for a peaceful private barbecue of grilled meats and seafood.
