Here, we list the best waterfalls to visit for swimming, photography and staggering views. All of them also make for excellent picnicking spots, with a feast packed up by our talented chefs.
Tegenungan
Tegenungan Waterfall is located around 25 minutes’ drive from COMO Uma Ubud, surrounded by lush greenery. The waterfall has a drop of around 15 metres, with a pool at the base that is very popular for swimming. Visitors pass along a tree-lined path and down a series of steps to reach the base. Or you can stop at a viewing platform higher up to admire the falls from above. There is a small Hindu temple near the waterfall, Pura Dalem Tegenungan.
A Place for Quiet Reflection
Kanto Lampo
Rather than a single cascade, Kanto Lampo spills over several ledges in a wide sweep — like a series of mini waterfalls — dropping into a shallow pool at the base. It’s less visited than some of Ubud’s other waterfalls, so it’s a particularly peaceful escape, especially if you visit in the early morning. The journey to get here takes about 25 minutes from COMO Uma Ubud.
Tukad Cepung
Tukad Cepung Waterfall is around 50 minutes’ drive away, and makes for a great half-day trip for adventurous guests. A narrow, rocky path interspersed with steep steps leads you to a narrow canyon. From there, you wade through shallow waters between towering cliffs, emerging into a hidden cave-like setting dominated by a 15-metre waterfall. If you visit between 8am and 10am, the sun is at the right angle to cast bright streaks of light around the whole cavern.
The Bluest Waters
Goa Rang Reng
A 30-minute drive from COMO Uma Ubud, Goa Rang Reng is best known for its striking blue waters, experienced best on sunny days. There are two well-maintained trails that lead to this secluded waterfall: one for adventurous visitors, passing through a dark-rocked cavern, and the other leading directly to the falls. The waterfall itself is a gentle, broad cascade with a natural pool at the base which makes for a refreshing swim.
Leke Leke
Around 45 minutes’ drive from COMO Uma Ubud, Leke Leke Waterfall is a narrow cascade that falls around 15 metres. The hike to the falls takes around 15 minutes, with steep steps that make the return journey a breath-stealing climb. What makes this waterfall worth the journey is the green-draped jungle which surrounds the falls, creating the feeling of a private sanctuary.
