Ski-in, ski-out

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST LUNCH IN THE DOLOMITES

Destination 4 minute read

We asked our mountain guides for the best places to stop for lunch, whether you’re ski touring, snow-shoeing or taking a horse-drawn carriage ride.

The Alpe di Siusi, where COMO Alpina Dolomites is located, is part of the Dolomiti Superski region —  one of the most extensive interconnected ski areas in the world. It’s also home to a unique and much-loved culture of on-mountain restaurants known as ‘huts’ or ‘rifugi’ — cosy ski-in, ski-out places to warm up with some hearty Tyrolean cuisine and alpine hospitality. We’ve narrowed the on-slope dining options to a few standout favourites ranging from the rustic to the sophisticated.

Baita Rauch

The family-run Baita Rauch on the Alpe di Siusi has special views over Sasso Lungo and Sasso Piatto mountains. The cuisine is typical South Tyrolean, featuring regional dishes such as polenta, speck and dumplings, and there’s a good, well-priced wine list.

Fienile Hut

Fienile Hut is positioned on the Sella Pass — an ideal stop if you’re skiing the orange clockwise Sella Ronda tour. Most of the Dolomites’ huts operate walk-in-only policies, but we can secure reservations for our hotel guests. The white truffle dishes and chateaubriand are particular favourites, while the wine list is one of the best on the mountain.

Curona Hut

Curona Hut is located on Seceda, the highest peak in the Val Gardena region. It’s brimming with traditional charm — tiny, unfussy and with simply carved wooden interiors. The food is authentic and hyper-local, with meat (including T-bone steaks) served from the family’s own farm. The hot chocolate is a staple winter warmer, especially if you ask for added rum.

Alpina Chalet Grill and Bar

For sophisticated but comfortable on-mountain dining, COMO Alpina Dolomites’ Alpina Chalet Grill and Bar can be accessed from the slopes — and is a popular sun bowl for a lunchtime rendezvous. It’s also close to the childrens’ nursery slopes. The food includes tender steaks cooked on an open grill, and gourmet pizzas.
