Whether sailing, swimming, scuba-diving or water-skiing, feel at one with the ocean at COMO Point Yamu.
Phuket’s waters are hard to resist in the heat of summer, whether you’re riding a wave, taking a jungle waterfall shower, or diving from a boat at sunset.
To help you make the most of your visit to Phuket, the team at COMO Point Yamu are ready to help you enjoy some of the best water activities in and around the island.
White water rafting
For a bold family adventure, look no further than white water rafting on the Song Preak River. The Song Preak is a nine-kilometre-long river of clean, flowing water that runs through Phang Nga town.
You won’t raft down its entirety, but the rapids pick up once the rafts push off from the riverbank and you’ll have to work as a team to keep steady. As the ride ends in calmer waters, take time to look up and admire the majestic foliage all around you.
Adventure level: Moderate/Difficult
Best season: June to October
This activity takes place outside Phuket province.
Scuba diving
Phuket is among the top ten global diving destinations for good reason. Its pristine reefs in the Andaman Sea are home to some of the richest marine life, and most remarkable coral structures in the world. Expect to see sharks, scorpion fish, manta rays, colourful reef fish and more.
All divers are required to hold an international SCUBA diving license, which you will be asked to provide together with your logbook. A range of diving courses is also available at COMO Point Yamu for those wishing to qualify for a diving license.
Adventure level: Easy to hard
Recommended locations: Racha Island
Best season: December to April
Water-skiing and parasailing
Besides the usual suspects of snorkelling, surfing and jetskis, Phang Nga Bay also offers parasailing and water skiing. Test your core strength with the latter, as you hold on tight to the tether behind a speedboat, trying your best to stay upright while your friends cheer you on.
With parasailing, rise into the air solo or partnered under a bright parachute, trailing behind a speedboat that pulls you along the coastline with close-up views of the dramatic limestone karsts.
Adventure level: Easy to moderate
Best season: November to April
This activity takes place outside Phuket province.
Hong exploration
A ‘hong’ – meaning ‘room’ in Thai – refers to a collapsed cave system that’s commonly found on the islands surrounding Phuket. Each hong has a different character and they are home to contained ecosystems of monkeys, birds and fish, making them wondrous little worlds to explore. Hong entrances tend to have low-ceilinged passageways that are only accessible by kayaks or paddle-boards during low tide. For the latter, be prepared to lie down while you paddle or drift gently inside.
Adventure level: Difficult
Best season: November to April
This activity takes place outside Phuket province.
Private yacht island tours
Southern Thailand is blessed with a number of islands off its coasts, offering a sense of freedom, mystery and adventure to both locals and visitors. Rock paintings on several islands in Phang Nga Bay date back a thousand years or more – COMO Point Yamu can arrange for a specialist guide to show you the way.
Tour the Southern Thai islands by chartering your own boat from our resort’s fleet, ranging from a 28ft sports cruiser to a 76ft motor yacht. Larger charters come with cabins to relax in and space for entertainment. Each charter comes fully crewed, with staff numbers dependent on the boat’s size.
Adventure level: Easy
Recommended locations: Naka Island, Racha Island, Mai Thon Island (within Phuket province)
Best season: December to April
Waterfall swimming
Bang Pae Waterfall is Phuket’s biggest waterfall, and located only 15 minutes away from our resort. A dip in its waters is the blissful reward at the end of a challenging, four-hour trek into the green heart of Phuket’s only virgin rainforest, far beyond the public access area of the Khao Phra Teaw National Park. Here you can take an invigorating jungle shower to cool off after covering eight kilometres of lush rainforest. On the way through, try to spot some of the wildlife that lives in the vegetation: wild boar, flying lemurs, langurs, gibbons and more.
If you’re keen to know more about those who call the jungle home, you can also visit the nearby Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, where you can learn about the conservation efforts underway to protect these incredible creatures.
Adventure level: Moderate to hard
