The Dolomites in Summer: Three Perfect Days

AT COMO ALPINA DOLOMITES

A COMO guide to wellness treatments, authentic South Tyrolean food, and some of Italy’s greatest outdoor adventures at your doorstep.

During the summer season at COMO Alpina Dolomites, we make the most of the landscape’s natural abundance at every turn, from COMO Shambhala therapies that use local herbs to activities in and around rural villages. We have designed three perfect summer days at the resort, showcasing the best seasonal produce and activities, from visits to cheesemakers, to e-biking and ziplining.

Day One

A Taste of the Mountains

The best way to settle into COMO Alpina Dolomites is by taking in the view from your room, overlooking the meadow pastures of the Alpe di Siusi and its majestic surrounding peaks. When you’re ready, head to the Lobby Lounge and Bar for some casual bites to fuel you through to a later lunch. Then prepare for a comfortable ride in a private horse-drawn cart — a traditional method of transport in the Dolomites. You’ll travel to Gostner Schwaige, a nearby restaurant and dairy farm. Their produce is famous for its quality: yoghurt, Tyrolean grey cheese, Edelweiss Camembert and soft cream cheeses. You’ll tour the farm, learning about the art of cheese-making, before pausing for a lunch made from just-harvested ingredients. Gostner Schwaige’s mountain salad is made with 25 edible flowers and herbs, while the shredded sweet egg pancake is a particularly popular dessert, served with fresh fruit and raisins.

Return to COMO Alpina Dolomites for an afternoon’s relaxation by the heated outdoor pool, watching the sun sink under the horizon. When you’re ready for an early evening Italian aperitivo, you can enjoy a glass of local wine on the terrace, before getting ready for dinner at Sassolungo. This intimate restaurant is the perfect place to end a busy day, serving a classic Mediterranean menu, interspersed with classic Dolomites dishes and flavours.

Day Two

Alpine Adventure

Begin your day with breakfast at Sassolungo before setting off on a thrillseekers adventure. A guided e-bike ride is a great way to immerse yourself in the landscape, with a range of heart-pounding uphill paths and sedate trails to suit every skill level. Once you’ve made your ascent, you can continue the adrenaline rush with a descent via the high-speed Monte Pana zipline. You’ll take two lines stretching a total length of around 1500 metres, soaring above the treetops and meadows and reaching a top speed of up to 50 miles per hour.

Next, stop at one of the many mountain huts along the trail for a simple lunch. Then drive back to COMO Alpina Dolomites for a signature COMO Shambhala hay bath. These were traditionally used by South Tyrolean farmers to relieve aches and pains caused by the demanding work of hay-making — an important industry that ensures dairy herds remain well-fed over winter. The treatment begins with a full-body COMO Shambhala Massage, after which you are wrapped in fermented, warm hay, rich in medicinal herbs and plants. While you steep in the lightly balsamic scent, your therapist will give a 30-minute facial. It’s a calming antidote to a morning of adventure, relieving muscle tension, improving circulation, and rejuvenating the skin.

Afterwards, enjoy an afternoon tea of pastries and cakes on the terrace, with plenty of time to relax before dinner. Tonight, dine at the Trattoria Dell’Alpe, showcasing wines, meats and cheeses sourced from nearby villages and inspired by the Veneto’s rich culinary traditions.

Day Three

An Aerial Experience

Start your final day with a quiet hike up to Puflatsch Hill, a moderately challenging route that takes two-and-a-half hours. The far-reaching views are spectacular, and tranquillity permeates every step you take with birdsong, gentle breezes, and early rays of sunshine warming your skin.

Next, have a leisurely breakfast at Sassolungo, then take to the skies on a private helicopter tour over the Dolomites, weaving between peaks and taking in the beauty of the green meadows spread out below you.

Once back at the resort, have a final lunch at Alpina Chalet Grill and Bar before you leave — it’s located right on the slopes of the Alpe di Siusi and features dishes cooked over an open fire including steaks and gourmet pizzas.

Please contact our concierge at COMO Alpina Dolomites to book or reserve any of the above activities.
